There's just something about that first day of school. The year seems to be so full of promise. The backpacks are so fresh and the clothes are brand new and it seems like life is starting out fresh and new too. I have really always thought of the beginning of school as the beginning of the year more than New Years' Eve. With pencils sharpened and a little bit of butterflies in your tummy you head back to school to see those friends you haven't seen all summer and to meet the teacher who will be directing your day for a very large portion of your time in the next nine months. The grind of homework and tiredness hasn't set in yet and everyone is happy to get up and get going for that first day.
Today was that day. My son headed out into the wild yonder of second grade today! He's turning eight next week! How the time flies. But he still gave me a hug in the hall when he saw me after lunch!
My little girl became a kinder this morning and LOVED it. She has made some sweet friendships already and gave me a play by play of her ENTIRE day. I still can't believe my baby is in Kindergarten!
So it starts. Our early mornings, our packing of lunches and Mom saying "hurry!" as we get ready to leave the house by 8am! The year does seem full of promise and excitement and I really can't wait to see how my little kiddos grow; academically, socially, and most importantly spiritually. My prayer is that they will be shining out God's love to their classmates and teachers and will be seeking Him first every day of this entire school year ahead!
