Hailey lost her two front teeth last night. She had already recently lost two other teeth on the bottom. As you can see, she is looking a bit like a jack-o-lantern. I think she looks insanely cute, and can't get enough of her gappy grin.
My kids don't believe in the tooth fairy. They really never have. We didn't ever tell them about a little flying fairy that creeps into their rooms at night to steal their teeth and leave money. But we did always let them put their teeth in a special little bag and we snuck in and put some money in there when they were asleep. My firstborn is way too logical to buy into that stuff. So even if Hailey may have wanted to believe all her friends from school who talk about the tooth fairy, she really never had a chance with Ethan for her older brother.
When Ethan was 3 we were camping and and there was a junior camper activity where a man was dressed up in a beaver costume. The other 2 & 3 year olds were either scared and about to cry or so overjoyed to see a real giant beaver. Ethan had this skeptical look on his face and I said, "Look Ethan, a beaver." To which he replied flatly, "That's not a real beaver, that's a man dressed up inside a beaver costume." Then he resumed his rock painting and completely ignored the creature/man.Russ thought that was hilarious. Ethan is sooo like his father.
Look at my little ones! They were so young! |
So last night after we had put Hailey to bed with her teeth in a little bag beside her pillow, we were out watching a show on TV, when she come out holding her bag of teeth. She hands the bag to me and impishly says, "I just wanted to see the tooth fairy get my teeth." Then she turned and walked back to bed. Stinker! My family is so realistic it's silly at times.
Do your kids believe in the tooth fairy?

My friend Heather's kids are as realistic as yours, so she (or sometimes her husband) puts on a pair of dress-up fairy wings and sneaks in there, in character as "the tooth fairy" to get their teeth. I thought that was a totally cute way to do it! Beth sort of does believe in it though, or at least she pretends to.
Hailey does look insanely cute!
I always tell my kids not to express their opinions about make believe characters to other children, so that they don't ruin it for other kids. Hopefully Beth's belief is safe from my harsh reality children. :) I love the wings idea!
Geoffrey does believe in the tooth fairy. I have no idea if that is a good or bad thing. Fairyland is destroyed soon enough in my opinion; I feel like I don't need to help it along. Our story is the fairy takes the teeth to build her castle. He seems very concerned to make sure she gets his teeth. He is also very excited about the fact that he gets a dollar out of the deal.
We think she's cuter than ever! It's funny, Avery is nowhere close to losing any teeth yet, but she doesn't seem to care one bit. She asks about the tooth fairy, though, and I'm just not good at lying. I think she gets that it's not real but people like to pretend cause it's just plain fun!
