My mothers day was very low key this year but had a few little quirks that I'll never forget. The day started with Russ getting up with the baby and making me breakfast. Not just an ordinary, easy to prepare breakfast but a delicious breakfast skillet, complete with toast. This is my kind of breakfast and the sort of thing I always order in a restaurant instead of waffles or pancakes. I like meat, eggs and potatoes. It was tasty! The kids made me cards, of course, and they were spectacular. I loved seeing the giant mess of papers, scraps and pens laying all crazy on the table behind them as the handed me their creations. So sweet!
Ethan's was a fold out banner card! |
Hailey's, all taped together, cute! |
We all went to church together and the message was wonderful and encouraging. I loved seeing all my mom friends and wishing them a Happy Mother's Day too! When we left church Ethan was so excited to take me to Starbucks for a coffee. He had brought his money and wanted to treat his mom to a special Mother's day coffee! I suggested we could go somewhere other than Starbucks, like French Press (because I wanted a blended J Brulee if I was being forced to have a treat), but he wouldn't hear of it!
"No mom, Starbucks is your favorite!" Who am I to argue?
He and I marched into Starbucks together an he had his little bag of coins clutched in his hands. He poured it out on the table and asked me what drink I wanted. I answered that I wanted a tall black and white mocha. He scrutinized the menu and realized a "tall" was the small size. He objected and insisted I order the largest size he could afford. He diligently counted out the $4.20 in dimes and nickels and headed to the counter. He had me order and then dropped the stream of money into the cashiers hands. The young man counted it out with a smile and wished me a happy mother's day. Ethan was beaming and I was feeling especially loved by him. Never mind that I never order that much coffee or that as I was handed my drink Ethan accidentally bumped me and I spilled foam all down my front. He hurried to clean it up an I just hugged him. How precious is a nine year old taking his mama out for a coffee on Mother's day?!
When we got home I got my beautiful presents. Hailey drew me a spectacular picture of a flower and Ethan had made a top ten list of reasons he loved me. That list brought tears to my eyes and I'll cherish it forever!
The family took me back into town after they ate lunch, I was not hungry with 20oz of coffee in my belly! They patiently took me to Target and Joanns to do some shopping for projects and get me some hand weights to use with my workout. (Jillian Micheals is shredding me to pieces!)
When I got back home I cleaned the kitchen and made dinner. Back to normal I guess. But I didn't let it get me down, I'm so pleased that I get to serve this beautiful family. By cleaning and cooking for them I am getting to show them how blessed I am to be their mama!

Connie, I am so glad you are the wife of Russell and the mom to your awesome kids! I was thinking as I read this how pleased Grandpa Libby would be to see his great-grandson's list and know that his prayer for another Christ-honoring generation is being answered. Love you!
I love it, Connie! Ethan is so incredibly sweet!
And I love Jill's comment...brought tears to my eyes.:)
Happy Mother's Day (a little late), Friend!
